Welcome to your new favorite bakery!
Open Hand’s Bake Shop sells sweet loaves of bread year-round to support our Culinary Workforce Development Program. Check out the shop to see what we currently have in stock!
Here’s why our sweet loaves are so delicious:
They’re homemade in our very own Westside kitchen.
Every loaf is baked, with love, by our Culinary Workforce Development apprentices as part of their training.
100% of the Bake Shop’s profits benefit the education of our culinary apprentices, from their first set of chef knives to employment support.
What is the Culinary Workforce Development Program?
Open Hand’s Culinary Workforce Development Program was the vision of our former Executive Director, Stephen Woods. In 2024, after moving to our expanded campus on the Westside, the first cohort began taking classes in our Teaching Kitchen. Targeted towards those living on public assistance or otherwise looking for a fresh start, the 11 week program is free of charge and teaches you all the essentials of culinary school, working in a commercial kitchen, catering, job readiness, and more.
We’ve since seen great success, with over 75% of apprentices graduating and 85% of those currently employed in culinary-focused jobs.
